What I Wore On My Face #1 Summer Pop

With the hottest day of year just around the corner, what better time to introduce a pop of colour to my every day make up routine & get in the spirit for summer. As normal I've used my usual go-to fave foundation Revlon Colorstay in Buff for my base. I've tried to keep my eye make up simple with a light dusting of golden brown (from my MUA Brow Kit) and a slick of Revlon Grow Luscious mascara. As for the main attraction, it had to be MACs Lady Danger for my lips. A show-stopping orangey red, perfect for Summer!

From left to right, top to bottom, Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara in Blackest Black, La Roche Posay Effeclar Duo, Collection Concealer, MUA Pro-Brow Kit, Maybelline Matte Maker Powder in 001, Lush Eau Roma Toner Water, MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger, Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Normal/Dry Skin, Sleek Blusher in Rose Gold.

Lush Full of Grace Serum Bar | In-Depth Review

I have a love/hate relationship with skin serums. As someone who still experiences regular "teenage" breakouts in her twenties, I have become more than used to not getting along with the latest night creams & serums, as they tend to be far too rich & oily for my sulky skin. This has always got me down as there is nothing I love more than my end-of-day skin care routine. I have found a friend for life with my beloved Ultrabland Cleanser (review here), which despite being a thick, rich cream, has really helped to look after my super sensitive skin (as well as being amazing at removing every trace of make up), without any adverse reactions. With this in mind, and after reading all the positive reviews on the Lush website I decided to try their Full of Grace Serum Bar.

A friend of mine had recommended Full of Grace to me a while back as she too suffers from problematic oily/combination skin. However I decided to give it a miss at the time as I believed it would only cause more trouble. In spite of my previous reservations though I decided to trust my friend and try it out for myself as I had been experiencing particularly dry, flakey patches which I have never had to deal with before.

The lovely shop assistant in my local Lush store told me the best way to use Full of Grace was after cleansing and to put a face mask on top of it. Armed with Love Lettuce Fresh Face Mask (which I blagged for free with the 5 empty pot scheme. Never throw away those empty Lush pots people!) I took her advice and gave it a go.

This serum bar works just like a Lush massage bar. If you've never tried one before it really is easy to use. Simply rub the bar between your fingers to release the oils and then massage on to a clean face. I personally prefer to rub the bar directly on to my face, but as I am the only one using my serum bar this is not a problem for me. If you are sharing your bar with others I'd recommend using your fingers or cutting in to pieces as this limits spreading bacteria to each other.

Once I'd massaged in Full of Grace my skin felt very, very oily, but I persevered and applied my face mask. After removing my Love Lettuce mask my skin felt amazing! It wasn't oily or greasy feeling. It felt lovely, clean & silky smooth. The next morning however I had the tiniest spot. I wasn't sure if this was the serum or that my skin was just rebelling to the influx of products I decided to bombard it with the night before, but I decided to continue using my serum bar for the rest of the week to see the real effects of it. If something really annoys my skin, it will put up a massive fight until I discontinue using the product, so a week was more than enough time for my skin to let me know the score. I needn't have worried! For the first time in a long time my face felt a comfortable place to be, almost normal! Adding a serum in to my evening skincare routine, however daunting, was really exciting for me. I love the way my skin feels when I go to bed & when I wake up it's glowing! My skin feels hydrated without feeling clogged up. It does take a little time for the serum bar to absorb in to the skin, however this is not an issue for me. The gorgeous oils feel very luxurious as they melt in to the skin, leaving my face feeling pampered and beautifully nourished.

Full of Grace includes Portobello mushrooms as one of their main ingredients which contains skin-protecting vitamins & minerals, fabulous for the sensitive skin on the face. There's also calamine and chamomile blue oil thrown in to the mix to keep the skin calm & control excess oiliness, which makes it a great choice for anyone who suffers sulky skin like me or if you just want something suitable for oily/combination skin. It has a very subtle, natural smell which isn't too overpowering. Just right for every day use!

Since using Full of Grace, my skin has been transformed. I don't know whether it's because my skin is changing (as the flakey dry patches were new to me) but it seems to have taken this new skincare addition very well! As someone who has tried every high end serum & ended up out of pocket with irritated skin each time, it really is refreshing to find a product that suits my needs to the letter & doesn't break the bank either. Win win! I've also found that this cute little bar is an absolute wonder for dark under eye circles! Bonus points all round!

At £8.25 for a mere 20g bar, I was a little worried it wouldn't last too long & this would become an expensive habit. However I needn't of worried as you only need a few swipes of this lovely oval-shaped bar to cover your entire face. Thank you Lush, you have truly saved my skin!

You can find Full of Grace Serum Bar in your local Lush store or online here.

Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara

As my current mascara had ran out (Teez Desert Metals Mascara from last years You Beauty Advent Calendar) I thought it was time to try something new. Whilst perusing the Revlon section of my local Superdrug for my go-to foundation (Revlon Colorstay in Buff) I'd realised I'd never tried a Revlon mascara and as a devotee to their full-coverage foundations and lovely lip butters I decided to try out one of their eye products. (the half price offer wasn't to be sniffed at either!)

After hearing good reviews, I ended up with a Grow Luscious in Blackest Black. There were a few variations of this mascara. A plumping one, a lengthening one called Fabulash and another one in a different coloured tube which I presumed was the waterproof one. (The differences between each mascara weren't obviously clear on the packaging) I decided to go for the lengthening one by Fabulash as I prefer my lashes to look longer as opposed to thick and clumped up.

This mascara didn't disappoint. It gave my lashes lots of length without making them look fake. It doesn't dry too quickly either which means there's enough time to apply another coat should you wish too. One of my pet hates when it comes to mascaras that claim to be lengthening is that they almost always end up clumping my eyelashes horrifically. (maybe it's just my application technique, but it's annoying nonetheless) However this little gem gave my lashes the right amount of length without being overly clumpy. It also promises, with it's Grow Luscious formula to give you longer, healthier lashes. How this works I'm not entirely sure, but if it's true it's surely got to be a bonus, right?

The brush was easy to use and my lashes never ended up flaking or smudging throughout the day. As for when it came to removing my make up, Grow Luscious came off relatively easy compared with other stubborn mascaras, with help from my Lush Ultrabland Cleanser and a little Eau Roma Water toner.

Unfortunately the half price offer is no longer on, but Revlon Grow Luscious is available from most Boots or Superdrug stores retailing at £9.99 and is buy one get one half price in Superdrug right now!

Have you tried Revlons range of mascaras? What is your fave?

The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Body Butter

I was recently on the look out for a new body lotion, when on a recent visit to my local Body Shop I came across their brand new Fuji Green Tea  range. As someone who enjoys drinking green tea & tries to live a healthy lifestyle, these new products sounded perfect to me. What could be better than covering yourself in antioxidant rich green tea lotions and potions? As I'd never tried it before I decided to go for the small 50ml tub of Fuji Green Tea Body Butter.

I preferred the consistency of this butter as opposed to the other varieties available in The Body Shop. I tend to find a lot of their body butters a little too thick & rich for my liking. I know a body butter is meant to be a thicker oilier body lotion, but the green tea one was just right. Not too heavy but still felt very luxurious and moisturising.  It has a very light, almost delicate floral smell to it, so it's fab for anyone who doesn't like their bath & body products too overpowering. All in all I think this was a fab choice for my moisturising needs and will definitely be trying some of the other products in the range. The Green Tea Bath Tea and infuser rather took my fancy.

Have you tried the new Fuji Green Tea range? What are your thoughts on it? Buy in store or check out the full range here.

New Beginnings

Happy New Year!! Okay, so I may be a little late, but I have good reasons I promise. Some of you may have noticed I recently went AWOL and might be wondering why. (unless you've forgotten all about me, in which case I completely understand!) On the first of December I had big plans for this blog and my YouTube channel. Daily Christmas vlogs & beauty advent calender reviews were on the agenda and I was all ready to crack on with some serious blogging. However I merely made it past day 1. I recorded a lot of footage over the festive period, but I was never 100% happy with it. It all seemed a little mished mashed and this is also when I began to feel self conscious in front of the camera.

My anxiety & panic attacks became worse and I was feeling rotten, never in the mood to vlog about what a terrible time I was having. My boyfriend had recently been in a car accident and that was clearly playing on my mind. He was absolutely fine by the way, but you can't help over thinking all the would haves & could haves. I decided it was time to put the camera and the laptop away and focus on living my life & being happy. So I did. I tried to adapt a much more healthy diet and even started doing a bit of daily exercise. I then decided it was time for an even bigger change. It was time to leave home.

As someone who has suffered from depression & anxiety for a very long time, the thought of change absolutely terrified me. My mum has always been the one I go to during a particularly sad or anxious time, so the thought of not being in my "safe place" with people who know how to help me deal with daily panic attacks, frightened me to the core. All the more reason to do it, I thought to myself. So when my boyfriend Simon suggested moving in together I decided to bite the bullet and get over my fears. And let me tell you, I am so glad that I did. I feel so much better for pushing myself and giving myself the independence I'd always craved. Sure the first night I bawled like a baby and didn't know how I would survive the night, but when I got my sh*t together I realised it wasn't so bad . I live a 5 minute drive from my mum and with the most caring boyfriend in the world. He will literally do anything to make sure I feel completely happy, safe & comfortable and knows exactly how to help me through a panic attack should one rear its ugly head.

I'm so happy that I made this change. I hope that anyone who may be in a similar position as me can give themselves that kick up the bum and make a change too. Because I know just how scary it is. Feeling stuck in a routine that you're not particularly happy in because you're afraid of the unknown. But it's okay to be scared. Its normal. And it may just be the best thing you've done.

So there you go, that's where I've been. Along with the stresses of moving I've also had about 5 colds and 3 chest infections this year (my immune system seriously sucks) and a lot of the usual family engagements I have been a very busy bee. Fortunately, now that I'm settled in to my new home & the internet is finally being installed this week (hurrah, I can return from the stone age) I will be blogging a lot more. So watch out for some new beauty tips, reviews and obviously lots of Lush posts! I also want to start writing and even videoing more important issues. Since feeling like I've matured a lot recently I've decided it's just as important to address issues such as sex, politics, health & relationships. As much as I love reviewing new beauty products I also think it's good to mix it up a bit, so you will be seeing a wider range of posts in the not too distant future.

I hope all you wonderful people are well and are embracing 2015 with a smile.
